Congratulations! You have registered for classes, paid your bill and might be wondering what to do next. I just graduated from TJC, and here are my tips for a strong start:
Get your textbooks. My best advice: check the course syllabus at tjc.edu/syllabus for the professor’s choices of textbooks you’ll be needing. I’ve also learned the TJC Bookstore can supply your list of textbooks with just your A#. Go to bkstr.com/tylerjuniorstore.
Get your parking sticker and student ID. Swing by the campus police station. You’ll walk out with the parking sticker for your car and your student ID and lanyard you must have with you while you’re on campus. You’ll need it for tests too. If you don’t need a parking sticker, but want to get around town? TJC students can ride the City of Tyler busses for free with their student ID.
Get familiar with where your classes are. Go online right before classes start to see if there were any last-minute changes to where a class is being held. You don’t want any surprises on Day 1. For campus maps, go to tjc.edu/campusmaps.
Come early when parking on campus. Trust me, at the beginning of a semester, finding a parking place close to the building your class is in can be tough. Arrive early so you have time to find a good spot.
Dress appropriately. Dress for comfort! You might want to layer up because the difference in indoor and outdoor temperatures are sometimes extreme. But also, remember you only have one chance to make a first impression, and your appearance is a big part of that.
One last thing: Remember, you’ve made a great decision to invest in yourself. While there may be ups and downs along the way, YOU are worth it!
