3 reasons to take a summer class during COVID-19

Sun’s out, no one’s out. Remember the good old, pre-coronavirus summer days? They were spent hanging out by the pool, going on vacations, and working miserable summer jobs in 100-degree heat. With so many plans canceled, this is a great time to chip away at your degree plan and prepare for the future (whatever it may hold). Here’s three reasons to register for a summer class at TJC.

1. Avoid summer break boredom.

You’ve probably heard over and over again about these “uncertain, unprecedented times” due to COVID-19. Summer plans and summer jobs are being canceled, postponed, or changed in some way. Being at home all summer with nothing to do can get…. slow. Use this time to knock out some coursework!

2. This is the one time your online shopping habit will save you money.

Summer classes are cheaper than fall and spring courses. Not to mention—even if you are a transient student (that just means you have a different home university), you can take the same class offered at your home university for 1/3 of the cost online or in a hybrid format at TJC. 3. Get back on track for graduation (while laying out).

While 12 hours is considered full-time, you would have to complete 15 hours a semester to graduate in a standard four years. Summer classes let you keep a lighter course-load during the spring and fall terms, and then make up for it during the off-season. Contact an advisor to see what classes you can take this summer.

You won’t regret the time spent working towards your goal of graduation and a career, especially when you are home-bound for the social distancing duration.
