8 Reasons for Pursuing Your Career Dream

Deciding on a college major isn’t just about what courses you will take in college, it’s about choosing the career you will do for the rest of your professional life. It is a stressful thing, and rightly so because it is most likely one of the biggest decisions that you will ever make.  Well-meaning people in your life may try to help you decide, or even pressure you to go in a certain direction.  Or perhaps the pressure is to not go into a certain field.

You may even be tempted to go into a certain career pathway because someone else went that direction and it seemed to work well for them.   When any of these instances occur, you may feel discouraged to pursue your dream career, or even cast that dream completely aside.  Perhaps you did not realize the reasons “why” it is so important that you follow your career dreams, or maybe you have found it difficult to put your thoughts and feelings into words.  So, I put some concepts together that you may find helpful in voicing your reasons.

  1. You are the one wearing the name badge

No one else will be going with you every day and doing the work—it’s all you.  It needs to be something you enjoy—and no one else is going to make it happen for you. Own that name badge!  Go get it!

  1. Hope makes you float in the sea of life

Hope comes in many forms, and dreams are one of those forms—it helps make life worth living.  And, remember, you only have one life to live, make it count!

  1. You get to be a member of the dream team

There will be like-minded people at your dream job, and that makes for an easier match in work-place values with fellow employees.  You are all trying to row the boat in the same direction because you all believe in the vision.

  1. Times flies when you are having fun

You will spend the equivalent of 8,000 days at work in your professional life—you don’t want them to feel like 16,000.

  1. You get to be a superhero

Your superpower will be that of inspiring those that will be coming behind you.  Do the dream and then tell the story! Decide what color you want your cape to be now—it will make you smile.

  1. You can shine like a professional diamond…which is more than the regular kind

Career dreams usually involve an area that you excel in.  Therefore, you can go to work each day and build a career on what comes easily to you–and be the best!  What better way to build your confidence than being great at what you do?  Everyday!

  1. You get to walk tall, no matter your height

When you work in an area that you love, you feel great about it, and take pride in what you do.  Also, the important people in your life will have the opportunity to be proud of you too!

  1. You can bring home the bacon…with a smile, in a new car

Providing for yourself/your family is a core piece of why you go to work.  If you are doing what you dreamed of, odds are you will stay at that job more consistently and advance more easily than a job that you hate.
