You’ve been accepted – now what?

Congrats on becoming a TJC student! We’re so excited to see you on campus next semester. So now what?!

Here’s a list we’ve compiled of the next-steps to follow so you don’t miss out. If you’re a first-time college student, or just need a refresher, start here:

Get to know your A-Number and Apache Access

When you received your acceptance letter, you should have also received your A-Number, which is “A” followed by eight digits, like A0012345. This is how we identify you as a TJC student. It will also be your login to Apache Access, the student portal, where you’ll sign up for classes, see your grades, get your financial aid, and pay your bill.

Your password will take the form of the letters “TJC” followed by your birthdate in MMDDYY format. For example, if your birthday is July 21, 1998, your new Apache Access password will be TJC072198.

You can login to Apache Access by going to TJC.edu and hitting the login button on the top, or just go to http://myapacheaccess.tjc.edu.

Submit your test scores or take the TSI

TJC is an open-admissions college, so we don’t have an admissions test, or a specific score you have to make on the SAT. We do require that you take the TSI test, which is a statewide test for academic placement.

Don’t worry, this is not a pass/fail type of test, and you can come to TJC regardless of your score. TSI scores tell our academic advisors which courses you can be placed into your first semester. If you don’t score as well as you’d like, you can take a developmental course in that subject.

If you haven’t taken the TSI, go to the testing center in the Rogers Student Center on TJC’s main campus. Visit TJC.edu/TSI for more information on testing times. If you’ve taken the SAT or ACT, you may be exempt from the TSI!

If you took the TSI at your high school or another college, we need your scores! Send them to us by filling out this form.

Required immunizations

The law requires that all students under 22 be immunized against bacterial meningitis. If you’ve gotten the vaccine, great! Send a copy of your proof of immunization to the admissions office. If not, ask your doctor and get the shot. To learn more, go to TJC.edu/vaccination.

Apply for Financial Aid

Hopefully, you’ve filled out your FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. If not, go do that now.

Once you’ve applied for financial aid, your status will show up in the “traffic lights” section of your Apache Access account. Go to the Financial Aid page in Apache access and click “Financial Aid Traffic Lights” at the top. The lights will tell you what you need to do next.

Attend New Student Orientation and register for classes

New student orientation is a great way to get on campus, meet other new TJC students, and get registered for your first semester. We’ll walk you through the process every step of the way. Don’t miss this one! Go to TJC.edu/orientation for more info.

Don’t get dropped! Pay your bill!

So you’ve signed up for classes. The next step is to arrange payment, either by cash, check, credit, payment plan, financial aid or scholarships. If you don’t meet the deadline, you’ll get dropped from your classes and have to re-register, and we don’t want that.

Get plugged into student services and clubs

TJC has more than 50 student clubs and organizations, as well as services like tutoring, disability services, counseling, and the TRIO program. Check out TJC.edu/studentservices for more.

Check your student email often

Professors, advisors, and staff on campus will use your student email address to communicate with you. We can’t overemphasize how important it is to check your student email account! Go to Apache Access to read your student email, and check it regularly.

And that’s it! Seems fairly straightforward, right? If you have any questions about the process, feel free to connect with an admissions recruiter or advisor. They’re more than willing to help!

Give yourself a big thumbs-up. You’re a college student now!
