You might have heard the word “pathway” from an advisor or teacher, or maybe you saw it while you were looking around on the TJC website. TJC has six student pathways. These pathways are your first roadmap to graduation with a degree or certificate in your field of interest.
Many students aren’t sure what they want to be when they grow up.
That’s okay. We are so excited that you are pursuing a college education to give yourself as many opportunities in the working world as you can. Pathways help you find a direction without getting too specific, so that while you are still figuring out a career, you are working toward a degree that will apply.
For example, if a student has aptitude (natural skills) and interest in repairing cars or fixing things, we would recommend starting on the Manufacturing, Transportation & Industry Pathway. This student doesn’t have to know yet if they are going to study Engineering Technology or Automotive Technology, because this pathway ensures that he or she will be taking courses that could apply to both.
Pathways give you the time you need to decide what’s next.
Try out courses in a few degree options so that you can work towards the broad goal (get a useful degree in a field you enjoy) while figuring out the narrow goal (the specific job you want to use this degree for).
Our pathway series introduces each student pathway and provides information and guidance on if this might be the best fit for you. In addition, we recommend you take the free career assessment, which will help you decide which specific programs in each pathway could be a great fit for you!
