How to take a TJC class if you don’t even go here

Don’t worry, this isn’t a Mean Girls situation. If you are a student at another university or college but want to take a class at TJC, you will be classified as a transient student at TJC. That just means you can take a class at TJC and transfer it to your home institution.

A class at TJC costs 1/3 of a class at a local state university—and if you are attending an out of state school or a private college, you’ll save even more! Whether you are looking to fill a gap in your core, beat boredom during these COVID-19 times, or just save a little money, taking a class here as a transient student is a tried and true option.

Follow this checklist for a smooth transient experience!

1. Talk to your advisor at your home college. Ask which courses are transferrable from TJC towards your degree. We offer a lot of options—from Art History to Public Speaking to College Algebra. Check out all the courses here.

2. Apply to TJC

3. Submit your official college transcripts to:

Tyler Junior College
Attention: Registrar’s office
P.O. Box 9020
Tyler, TX 75711-9020

4. Complete Transient/Concurrent Form. This is your class registration—just fill it out online!

5. Pay for classes. The easiest option for transient students is to pay online through Apache Access. Under “Quick Links”, choose the link Statement and Payment History. At the bottom of the page, select Make a Payment.

6. After grades are posted, send your home college your TJC transcript.
