Orientation exists to help incoming freshmen transition smoothly into college. As a TJC Orientation leader, my job is to aid students with this task. I can’t wait to meet you and begin a lifetime of friendship!
These are my top three reasons you should come to Orientation.
1. Learn and know the campus.
Learning your surroundings is a vital part of becoming successful in a college environment. Knowing the different buildings is extremely helpful when trying to get to your classes on time without being panicked. If you come to Orientation, you’ll arrive for the first day of school knowing what the different buildings are and how to get to them. This is very helpful, and it limits the “first-day stresses” that almost every new college student experiences.
2. Make new lifelong friends that will always be there to help and comfort you.
When I went to Orientation, I was terrified about not fitting in and not having anyone that I could talk to. As my session went on, I realized that the group I was with were my new friends—especially my Orientation leader. I have never felt more comfortable talking to someone about college and about the help I needed. My chief was there for me every step of the way. Friends are a huge part of college life and general transition. Attending Orientation will allow you to make bonds and friendships that will never be forgotten!
3. Learn how to register for classes.
For most incoming freshmen, registering for classes can not only be a hassle but a stressor. Toward the end of your Orientation session, you have an amazing opportunity to meet with an academic advisor who will help you register for your fall semester classes. The advisors also help you with understanding what is required for your chosen major and help you set up your graduation plan. With the help of your advisor, you can ease yourself into college with the proper knowledge and skills you will need to succeed!
All in all, coming to Orientation will prepare you for your time at Tyler Junior College and set you up for the success that everyone strives for. Orientation is not just an event that sets you up for college, but it’s an event that you will remember for the rest of your life!
As an incoming freshman myself, I had the amazing opportunity to attend Orientation. This was by far one of the best choices that I have ever made. I now have a TJC family and I have learned so much about TJC and what all this amazing school can do for me.
